Objective:To study the relationship of Fas protein expression andDNA content in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) by flow cytometry. Methods:Fas protein expression and DNA content in resected samp1es of 33NSCLC patients and l7 cases of normal lung tissue were detected using flowcytometry. We compared Fas exepression,DNA ploidy and cell proliferationactivity which defined by proIiferation index and s-phase fraction(SPF) withclinicopathological parameters .Results:The percent of DNA aneuploidy inNSCLC was 81.82%,The mean (SD)DNA index(DI),PI and SPF in NSCLCwere l.36l l 0.231,29.29 l 9.l4,l4.39 l 7.8l respectiveIy,which weresignificantly higher than that in normal lung tissue. The Fas protein expressionwas lower in NSCLC than that in normal tissue (P=0) and showed negativecorrelation with PI (p=0.024)and SPF(p=0.004).Comparison them withclinicopathological parameters showed that no close relations were observedamong age, tumor size, lymph node metastasis and histological types of patients(P>0.05).ConcIusion: the decrease of Fas protein expression and theimprovement of the proliferation activity were common in NSCLC.
