Objective: To explore the effect, safety method and immunity of microwave tissue coagulation (MTC) for hepatocellular carcinoma, observing survival rate, pathological structure and range of the coagulative region, immunobiological features and change of the serum enzyme caused by action of MTC on the tumor of mice and normal liver of rabbits. Methods: Implantable Hepa hepatoma model of mice were applied, forty single-side tumor-bearing mice were divided into two groups: MTC group and control group, to study the survival rate: Thirty tumor-bearing mice were divided into two groups: MTC group and control group, the pathological structure was observed and the change of the tumor surround CD4+and CD8+ cell were analyzed by immunohisto chemistry and image analysis techniques. ②Four normal rabbits were inserted into the liver tissue by single needle microwave electrode, the range of the coagulate tissue were immediately after the MTC and the pathological structure also was observed; Eight normal rabbits were divided into two groups: antibiotic group and nonantibiotic group, to observe the changes of liver function and the infection of the coagulative tissue. The absorbtion of coagulative region was periodically observed by using ultrasound.Results:①The pathological change of microwave tissue coagulation for tumor: the carcinoma cell of the tumor 1 centimeter in diameter was induced entire coagulation necrosis in MTC group and there was partial necrosis in the tumor whose diameter is more than 1 centimeter, however, there are lots of carcinoma cell in control group. There were many macrophages in the surround of coagulative region three days after microwave coagulation. The fibrous tissue and the lymphocyte coagulative surround in MTC group was higher than that of control group seven days and fourteen days after microwave coagulation.②immunohistochemirtry: the density of CD4+and CD8+ cell in carcinoma surround in MTC group were much higher that that of control group. ③The survival rate of MTC group was much higher than that of control group, the former survival rate of 35 days was 95% and survival rate of 60 days is 90%, however, the latter survival rate of 35 days was zero. ④Heapting at 100W for 30 seconds could lead to coagulative necrosis of liver tissue 1.5±0.3cm in diameter and there was a slight lesion in the coagulative surround of liver tissue, however, It was completely absorbed in eighty days after microwave coagulation. Liver function was influenced easily after microwave coagulation and the change of serum enzyme was obvious, but it could recover to preoperative level. Antibiotic should be used after surgery in order to prevent the infection of coagulative surround, Conclusion: The microwave tissue coagulatiion for liver carcinoma is a safety and effective method and can improve anti-carcinoma ability of coagulative surround.
