Purpose: To investigate the promoting mechanism of liqi Buxue Decoction(LBD) on regeneration and repairation of the injured peripheral Nerve and provide data for the practical use of LBD, by studying the effects of LBD on the injured sciatic nerve of rats by pressure. Methods: Peripheral nerve injury model was set up by crushing the right sciatic nerve of rats. 66 model Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into experimental group and control group and administered respectively with LBD and normal saline every day after surgery. All the indexes were tested in 2 -. 4 .. 6 weeks of operative intervals respectively. Results: (1) The general observation in the experimental group ,such as spirit, hair, body weight and activity ,was superior to that in the control group.(2) The recovery rate of sciatic nerve functional index (SF1) was statistically significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group .(3) electrophysciological indexes: m the experimental group ,the tardy rate of induced motorius action potential ,recovery rates of the amplitude of compound muscle action potential and twitch tension and tetanic tension of triceps surae muscle ,were significantly higher than in the control group.(4) Compared with the control group ,the triceps surae muscle wet weight was significantly greater in the experimental group.(5) histomorphological indexes: the count of myelinated nerve fibers ,diameter of regenerated axon, thickness of nerve myelin sheath and area of capillary were much more in the experimental group than in the control group.(6) observation of ultrastructure with the transmission election microscope: more abundant organell a and maturer myelin sheath lay in the injured peripheral nerve of the experimental group, while not lay in the control group. Conclusion: LBD can promote the injured peripheral nerve regeneration and repairation and functional recovery. The promoting mechanism may be as follows:(l) promote the axon regeneration.(2) regulate the microenviroment of peripheral nerve regeneration: 0 accelerate Schwann Cell appreciation ,myelin sheath formation and structure integritv:~ improve the local rnicrocirculation Increase the local oxygen and nourishment ,accelerate the clearance of degeneration material; ?inhibit the collagcnous fibre formation. In a word, form the microenvironment beneficial to nerve regeneration.(3) delay the atrophy of denervated skeletal muscle. (4) protect neuron.
