Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is the most common salivary malignant tumor in the oral maxillo-facial region. Infiltrative growth is the character of mucoepidermoid carciroma in the clinic. The local recurrence is very common post operation. Especially, Low-differentiated mucoepidermiod carcinomas usually happen to metastasis. Recently, there had been great progress on the research of metastasis-related genes, but few studies was done on Mucoepidemoid carcinoma.Infiltration and metastasis are the main biological features of malignant tumor and the main cause to death. Today molecular regulation mechanism of infiltration and metastasis malignant tumor is hot topic. Matrix-metalloproteinase is an important enzyme decomposing a protein and can degrade extra cellular matrix. MMP2 can decompose collagen IV of basal membrane, Its over-expressed has closely relation to infiltration and metastasis of malignant tumor.E-cadherinr (E-CD) is the main cellular adhesion molecules, its expresses attenuates or disappears in many malignant tumor cells of the mankind. It has relation to local infiltration and lymph node metastasis of malignant tumor.Immunohistochemical staining was used in our study to detect the expressionsimmunohistochemical SP(streptavidin peroxidase conjugated )method. The cytoplasm of the cells with antibodies against MMP-2 was stained by brown-yellow. Positive (+):Positive cells>10%.,Negative(-): positive cells<10%. The staining with antibodies against E-CD was Positive, Positive cell with brown-yellow granulate at the membrane or in the cytoplasm (1) Positive cells>90%, retaining type (2)Tumor cell was abnormal expression 〥isappear type (-),Positive cells<10%;(2) Attenuates type(?, 10%0.05). But lymph node metastasis, clinical stage and histology grade had high correlated to prognosis of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (P<0.05), which showed that the three indexes were the factors affecting survival rate.2. Of 8 cases of normal salivary gland, 2 cases were positive expression for MMP-2 (Positive rate is 25 %). Of 46 cases of mucoepidermoid carcinoma, 33 cases were positive expression for MMP-2 (Positive rate is 71.74%). There were significantly differences in the two groups (P<0.05). Of 46 cases of the mucoepidermoid carcinoma, 18 cases were retaining expression for E-CD (Positive rate is 39.13 percent), In 8 cases of normal salivary gland, 8 cases were retained expression (Expression rate is 100%), There were significant difference in the two group (P<0.05).immunohistochemical SP(streptavidin peroxidase conjugated )method. The cytoplasm of the cells with antibodies against MMP-2 was stained by brown-yellow.
