So far, Iodine Deficiency Disorder has been one of main menaces,to human being's health all over the world. Adding iodine into salt has been primary measure ever taken to act against the problem, and it has already become the best strategy to exterminate the disease thoroughly in the long run. During the process of application of iodine addition, the main additives are potassium iodide (KI) and potassium iodate (KlOa). Between them, KI has a bigger solubility and a higher proportion of iodine element, and consequently has a better performance on iodine supplementation. However it is not stable chemically. Since 1990, KIC>3, instead of KI, has been employed nationally to prepare iodine salt. Although, there has been a significant drop of ratio of goiter with the promotion of national iodine addition program and application of KIOs, it should be realized that KIOs works less efficiently against IDD compared with KI, and has a relativelylower rate of utilization. Furthermore, it is of toxicity to some extent. KIQ^ is also a strong oxidizer and tends to oxidize some substanc.es first after getting inside human body, and leads oxidized tissues be liable to some harm. At present, in some developed countries. The salt with KI is still the main edible salt.In this study, Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups (low iodine group and normal iodine group) according to the basic iodine level of the body. Low iodine group (LI) were fed by low iodine diet and iodine free water, and normal iodine group (NI) were fed by low iodine diet and potassium (KI) added drinking water (concentration of KI: 300ug/L). LI diet was prepared from the crops, which were harvested in the serious iodine deficiency area, and deionized water. 12 weeks later, the qualified animal model was developed (according to their goiter by experiment). Then, the LI Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: One group was fed by low iodine diet and iodine free watercontinuously, the another one was fed by low iodine diet and KI water, the third group was fed by low iodine diet and KIOs water. This experiment period was 12 weeks. Every parameter was measured at the end of the whole experiment. ANOVA is applied in the comparison between LI group and NI groups, and q test is applied in multiple comparison among any two groups. SPSS software was used. These results were observed as follows: ︰ptake iodine rate: Nether LI group nor NI group, the ability of thyroid uptake iodine from KI and KIOj are almost the same. The difference was not significant (P>0.05). But the ability of thyroid uptake of the LI group is 100+times higher than the NI group. (2)24 hours urinary iodine: According to the amount of urinary iodine of 24 hours, the urinary iodine of NI group was 500+times than the LI group, but the difference of urinary iodine between two groups which were fed by KI water or KlOa water was not significant(P>0.05). (3)Serum hormone: The difference of the content of T3 between NI group and LI group was not significant(P>0.05), 12 weeks later of the treatment of KI and KIO3, the difference among these four groups was still not significant (P>0.05); While the content of T4 was different: the level of T4 of NI group is 100" times higher than LI group (P<0.01). Fed with KI water or KIOs water for 12 weeks, we measured the level of T4. Compared with LI group, the differences of content of T4 were not significant (P>0.1), but compared with NI group, the content of T4 was 6~7 times higher than NI group (P<0.01). HC50: The titer of antibody to SRBC. The difference of HCso between NI group and LI group was not significant (P>0.05). And after fed with KI water and KIO3 water for 12 weeks, the differences among these four groups: LI group, NI group, KI group, KlOa group, were also not significant (P>0.05). But later in LI group, they were continually fed by low iodine diet and iodine free water (being fed with low iodine for 24weeks till now), the titer of antibody to SRBC was statistically lower than tha^of NI group (P<0.01), which...
