Modernization Of Quality Stardards Within The Chinese Traditional Medicine

In the field of natural science, China's patented traditionalmedicine industry is far superior to that of other nations, and possesses the greatest opportunity for growth. The international market for herbal medicine continues to increase at a rate of 20% per year. In this post-China's entry into the WTO period, the question arises, "How do we capitalize on our position, best employ new and modern processing techniques, and increase capacity and market share?"The Chinese traditional medicine industry still faces challenges. In 1999, China enacted the Modernize Chinese Herbal Medicine Research and Industrial Development policy. The policy deals with a wide array of issues from the cultivation of herbs through the production of the end-user product. Taking this into account, this author proposes that the Chinese traditional medicineindustry focus on the need for modernization of quality standards within the Chinese Traditional Medicine. Facets of this paper include the enumeration and analysis of cultivation problems, research methodology, and production techniques. Furthermore, this paper examines the quality controls and standards used within the Chinese traditional medicine industry with findings concerning the problems and deficiencies still faced by the industry. It is evident that an acceleration of modem practices and standards concerning herbal cultivation is necessary to ensure quality, safety and efficiency. And with greater quality control standards similar and acceptable to that of the international medical establishment, Chinese traditional medicine will be able to compete successfully worldwide.
