INeuron - specific enolase (NSE) is a glycolytic enzyme that exclusive to enormous and neuroectodermal. NSE accounts for 1.5% of soluble brain protein NSE is a specific marker for neuron there is no NSE in glial and other neuronal issue NSE is a marker of neuronal injury measured in Serum, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and cell culture.If seizures itself could cause injure of the brain is not clear. Some studies had proved that serum and CSF NSE elevated after seizures but not psychogenesis. NSE was correlated with the duration of patients in epilepticus. The patients with bad outcome had the highest NSE level. So we can consider that NSE has importance in judge the degree of brain injure and outcome.Prolactin (PRL) is secreted by adenohypophsis, it's half?life is 5 minute, and eliminate hyliver and kidney. The secretion of PRL was regulated by the prolactin releasing factor (PRF) , and prolactin release - inhibiting factor (PIF) that secreted by by pothalamus. In the inner basses of hypothalamus 5 - hyroxytryptamine promote the release of PRL and dopamine inhabited it, Function of PIF is more than PRF, so PRL is often be inhibited. Since 1978, Trimble first reported seizure can elevate the level of PRL; a lot of reaches have studied the effect of seizure of PRL. PRL elevations are considered sassily a marker to distinguish seizure and psychogenesis.There are only a few reports internal and abroad about the level of PRL and NSE of patient of seizure. In this study, through the contrast of the level of PRL and NSE after seizure of epilepsy ( EP) , epilepsic-viral cerebitics ( EVC) and febrile convulsions ( FC ) to provide a objective marker of the degree of brain injure and the diagnosis distinguish and judge the outcome of this disease.Materials and Methods1. Case The total of 40ill children were involved in the study from 2nd hospital of china Medical University from March to August 2001. Among them, 26 were male and 14 were female. With the average age of 3.4 ± 1. 0 years. 12 were EP, 16 were FC and 12 were EVC none of them with the disease of endocrine and tumor, and didn't use the medicines effect endocrine All of the ill children with seizure - free intervals (SFI, the time between seizures) more than 7 days.2. The volue of 1. 8ml peripheral blood of seizure group was taken from the vein within 1 ~ 2hoors after seizure. After added into 0. 2ml heparin (125u/ml) to anti - coagulate the samples were centri-fuged for 3 ~ 4 minutes at 2000 ~ 3000 rpm. The serum was collected, kept at - 20℃ refrigerator and until analysis detected once. The ELISA method was used to assay the quantity of NSE and PRL.3. Statistical Analysis The date of PRL and NSE were expressed as X ±SD, t test was used for comparison between two groups P <0. 05 was considered statistically significant.Results1. The serum PRL and NSE of EP group was significantly higher than that of control group.2. The serum PRL and NSE of EVC group was significantly higher than that of control group.3.
