| Objective: to investigate the effect of Tangmoning decoction on diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN) patients' serum AGEs and electromyogram.Methods: all subjects involved were inpatients in attached hospital to Liaoning College of TCM. The diagnostic standard accords with diabetes formulated by ADA( 1997), and DPN by (writed by Zhong Xueli). 20 normal healthy control subjects from our hospital (NC group), 20 cases of type 2 DM without complication (DM group), 80 cases of DPN (DPN group), and it was disparted equally into Tangmoning group (TG) and mecobalamin group (MG). There were no statistical differences among four groups in the age and sex (p>0.05). All the subjects had no heard diseases, high BP, cerebrovascular disease, infectious diseases, noDKA in 3 weeks. BG were controlled though diet and drug. Collested 5ml venous blood, centrifuged it and got the serum, froozen it at -20℃ for exam AGEs. MNCV and SNCV of common peroneal nerve, sural nerve and median incision were examed by electromyography (Danmark DISA2500C).Results: the data was shown by average±standard deviation (x±s), compare the data among the groups by t test, analysis of AGEs was adopted by Linest. They were showed that AGEs increased in DPN group with NCV decreased. Symptom, AGEs and electromyogram were ameliorated in TG compared with MG (P<0.05) .Conclusion: (1)serum AGEs in type 2 DM was higher than in normal people. (2)serum AGEs in DPN was higher than in no DPN. (3)serum AGEs in DPN after treatment was lower than before. (4)serum AGEs in TG was lower than MG. (5)there was positive correlation between AGEs and age in normal people, AGEs and course of disease in type 2 DM. (6)Tangmoning can ameliorate symptom, increase pain threshold of patients with DPN, have a better effect on killing pain. (7)Tangmoning can restore peripheral neuropathy by decreasing AGEs, promoting nerve conduction velocity. Tangmoning also have better effect on preventing DPN from happening and slowing development of DPN.
