OBJECTIVE:The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between TIMP-1, VEGF expression and Ki-67-LI in gastric cancer . In addition, the relation between clinicopathologic parameters and the above values of the gastric cancer were investigated . The significance of TIMP-1, VEGF expression and Ki-67-LI in gastric cancer were evaluated .METHODS:The Ki-67 labeling index (Ki-67-LI), TIMP-1 and VEGF expression in tumors were analyzed by immunohistochemistry method using antibody against Ki-67, TIMP-1 and VEGF . The proliferation was compared with the expression of TIMP-1 and VEGF for each patients . The prognostic significance of Ki-67-LI, TIMP-1 and VEGF were evaluated .RESULT.1, TIMP-1 expression was detected in tumor cells and tumor stromal cells . The intensity of TIMP-1 stromal staining correlated with tumor' s max diameter (P=0. 027X depths of tumor invasion (P=0. 001), lymph node metastasis (P=0. 006), tumor stage (P=0. 006) and Ki67-LI (P=0. 007) . The Ki67-LI of TIMP-1 strong staining group ( 551.97 146.11 ) was significantly higher than that of weak staining group (506.91 127.84) ( P=0.038 ) . The prognosis of TIMP-1 strong staining group was significantly worse than that of weak staining group . 2, There was no correlation between TIMP-1 expression of tumor cells and clinicopathologic parameters and prognosis . 3, The intensity of tumor cells VEGF staining correlated with tumor' s max diameter (P=0. 011X depths of tumor invasion (P=0. 014X lymph node metastasis (P=0. 017), tumor stage (P=0. 001) and K167-LI (P=0. 026) . There was no correlation between VEGF expression and TIMP-1 staining of tumor or stromal cells .The prognosis of VEGF positive staining group was significantly worse than that of negative staining group . 4, Ki67-LI correlated with lymph node metastasis (P=0. 027X tumor stage (P=0.020) and prognosis (P=0. 036) .CONCLUSION:The correlation between TIMP-1 stromal staining and Ki67-LI reflects that TIMP-1 produced by stromal cells may favor the prolifecation of tumor cells and lead to worse prognosis . VEGF could prompt tumor angiogenesis and the development of tumor and was unfavorable for the prognosis . High Ki67-LI reflects the development of tumors and unfavorable prognosis. TIMP-1 expression of tumor cells had no correlation with clinicopathologic parameters and prognosis . Its significance in gastric cancer need to be further investigated .
