With the changes of human being life style and the coming of social age -old, cerebral vascular diseases, as a common and frequent disease, have become a main factor to lead to die. Among them, 85% was died of the cerebral ischemia caused by occlusion of cerebral vessels. In order to revolute people from this threaten, the research to prevent and treat the ischemic cerebral vascular diseases have become an acute works. At present, the usual therapy is the use of drugs to dissolve the thrombus, to protect nervous cells, to support and so on. The study of the effect of physical factor on ischemia has made certain progress. As a kind of physical treatment method on ischemic cerebral vascular disease, cerebellar fastigial nucleus electric stimulation has been preliminarily proved to be value and safe. But the corresponding experimental researches of cerebellar fastigial nucleus indirect electric stimulation on animal have no report. The study aims at observing the effects of cerebellar fastigial nucleus electric stimulation on brain edema, infarct volume and free radical after the middle cerebral artery occlusion and reperfusion so as to study further whether cerebellar fastigial nucleus electric stimulation may treat focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion and the safety of its early application, the mechanism of it to provide theory evidence clinically by utilizing modified Zea - Longa method to duplicate the rat model.Material and methods106 healthy Wistar rats are divided into groups randomly as reperfusion group, control group and treat group. Focal cerebral ischemia in rats was pro-duced by 2h of the middle cerebral artery occlusion ( MCAO) and 24h reperfusion. To select rats, the neurological deficits were evaluated in 0 -4 scales and 58 were chose later, 12 in the reperfusion group, 20 in the control group, and 26 in the treatment group. The treat group is divided into two sub - groups as emergency treatment sub - group, 6h treatment sub - group. The ERBOGALVAN U2 was used to treat, two 3mm electrodes in diameter was placed on the rats, the e-lectric current frequency is 100HZ, the intensity is 1. 0mA, the time duration is 0. 5 ms and the stimulated time is 30min The cerebral water content was determined by wet/dry weighing method. The infarct volume was measured by 2,3,5 - triphenyltetrazolium chloride ( TTC) staining technique and image analysis e-quipment. The activity of super - oxide dismutase ( SOD) and the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in ischemic tissue of brain were analyzed.ResultCompared with the control group, the severity of cerebral edema in the treatment group, apart from the emergency group, is lessened ( P < 0. 05 ) , the volume of cerebral infarction of the treatment group is reduced ( P <0. 05 ) , the content of SOD is increased, and the MDA is reduced(P <0.05).ConclusionCerebellar fastigial nucleus indirect electric stimulation has a neuroprotec-tive effect against focal cerebral ischemia - reperfusion injuries and it may be related to decrease in cerebral water content and MDA, increase in the activity of SOD, decrease in the cerebral infarct volume.
