Objective: To study the effects of kuijiean on TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis in rats. Methods: The ulcerative colitis model of rats was produced by using TNBS which is hapten. . Kuijiean was used intracollonically once a day for 20 days. The colon mucosa damage index(CMDI) was evaluated. The activity of MPO, SOD and the levels of MDA, NO, IL-2, IL-10 in the colon were measured. Platelet agglomeration induced by Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) in rabbits and TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis rats were both detected. Results: Kuijiean (50 mg/kg , 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg) could decrease the elevated extents of CMDI, activity of MPO, the levels of MDA, NO, IL-2,while increase the reduced activity of SOD, the levels of IL-10 in the model group. Kuijiean might inhibit platelet agglomeration induced by Adenosine diphosphate (ADP) in rabbits and TNBS-induced ulcerative colitis rats. Conclusion: Treatment with Kuijiean intracolon can relieve the inflammation reaction, alleviate the colon injury in immunological colitis rats by its immunoregulation, the ability to pellate oxygen free radical , repair wound, inhibit platelet agglomeration.
