Objective : To investigate the relationship between the expression of E-cadherin, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in colorectal cancer with tumor biological characteristics and patient's survival . We hope to offer the foundation of the treatments in colorectal cancer in order to determine the prognosis of patients more accurately and look for related gene therapie's way in molecular level.Material and methods Immunoperoxidase staining of E-cadherin and MMP-9 , TIMP-1 was performed using 54 samples with colorectal carcinoma , acquiring from the patients whom received radical resection for colorectal carcinoma from January 1997 to December 1998 in our hospital , and the colorectal adenoma biopsy speciments were obtained from 15 controls under clinical coloscopy.Result : The expression rate of E-cadherin was 86.7% in colorectal adenoma and 55.6% in colorectal cancer , the former was significant higher than the later . There were statistic difference significantly between them ( P<0.05 ) . The expression of E-cadherin had related to growth style and it was decreased along with the decreased of celluar differentiateon . The expression of E-cadherin had negative correlateion to deepth of invasion and lymphy node metastasis and had positive correlation to prognosis ( P<0.05 ) . There was significantly positive correlation between the expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in colorectal cancer (r=0.374 P<0.05) .The expression rates of MMP-9 was 33.33% in colorectal adenoma and 70.4% in colorectal cancer , the later has significant relationship observed between MMP-9 expression and invasion deepth, Dukes stage, metastasis of lymph node and prognosis.
