Objective: To explore the effects of long-term inhaled glucocoticoids (IGS) on soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) in children with asthma。Methods: Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)method was used to detect the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level in 36 healthy children as normal control group and 29 asthmatic children (untreated and post-treated for 3,6 and 12 months). Results: ①Serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level were significantly elevated in children with asthma and different significantly compared with that in normal control group (q=34.1168, 25.2493, p<0.01) ②The levels of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 in children with asthma were decreased gradually after inhaled glucocoticoids 3, 6 and 12 months ,and different significantly compared with that in untreated group (p<0.01), the levels of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 after IGS 3 and 6 months were obvious difference compared with that of normal control group (p<0.01)③There was an obvious difference of the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 in the 3-month group compared with that of untreated group (q=10.9411,7.5629, p<0.01) ④There was an obvious difference of the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level in the 6-month group compared to that in the 3-month group (q= 12.2767, 7.7619, p<0.01 )⑤There was an obvious difference of the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level in the 12-month group compared to that in the 6-month.group.(q=6.9500,6.7599, p<0.01)and.the.3-month.group(q=18.5193,14.1297, p<0.01). But there was no obvious difference of the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level in 12 months compared with that of normal control group (q=2.4011, 1.8696, p >0.05) .Conclusion: ①The serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level of the asthmatic children is obviously higher than that in normal control group , which suggests that the adhesion molecules play an important role in asthma. ②The serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level goes down after IGs , and the longer the inhaled term is , the lower the lever is , which means that glucocoticoids can inhibit and prevent asthma by inhibiting the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level.③The serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level shows no obvious difference compared with that of normal control group in the 12-month group , which is to say that long-term inhaled glucocoticoids can inhibit asthma by decreasing the serum sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 level.
