Objective: To study the expression of KAI1/CD82 in non-small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLC) and explore the mechanism of invasion and metastasis of tumor cell. Methods: The S-P immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of KAI1/CD82 in 62 cases of NSCLC tissues and 20 para-cancerous normal lung tissues; the expression of KAI1/CD82 was determined in primary NSCLC, and 22 cases of lymph node metastatic tissue as control; and the correlation was analyzed between the expression of KAI1/CD82 and the clinicopathologic parameter and the prognosis of patients. Result: (1) The expression level of KAI1/CD82 in NSCLC (32.26%) was significantly lower than that in para--cancerous normal lung tissues (85.0%. P<0.01). (2) The expression of KAI1/CD82 in NSCLC was related to differentiation, clinical stages and lymph node metastasis. KAI1/CD82 expression reduced significantly in NSCLC with lymph node metastasis than in NSCLC without lymph node metastasis (P<0.05), reduced significantly in low differentiated tumours than in well differentiated tumours (P<0.05), reduced significantly in III-IV stages tumours than inâ… -â…¡ stages tumours (P<0.05). (3) KAI1/CD82 expression in lymph node metastasis of 22 cases was significantly lower than that in primary NSCLC (P<0.05). (4) Survival rates of three years were significantly higher to those patients with positive expression of KAI1/CD82 than those with negative expression (P<0.05). (5)Cox regression analysis showed that the expression of KAI1/CD82 and metastasis of lymph nodes were the significant independent prognostic factors to infect the survival time in NSCLC. Conclusion: The decreased expression of KAI1/CD82 probably participates in malignant progression of NSCLC, and could be used as one of the important marker to indicate the invasion, metastasis and prognosis in NSCLC.
