| The genus pongamia (family:Leguminosae,subfamily:papilionodae,tribe: TephRosiae) consists of only one species, Pongamia pinnata(L.)Merr. ,which is widely distributed along southeast Asia to the west Pacific and North Australia.In China, the plant grows on the Sandy coast along Guangxi,Guangdong and Hainan province. All parts of the plant have been used as a crude drug for the treatment of tumors , piles , skin diseases ,wounds , ulcers etc. , especially in India . Previous phytochemical studies showed rich resources of flavonoid compounds such as furanoflavones ,chromenoflavones ,simple flavones , chromenoflavanones, chalcones, β-diketone, β-hydroxychalcone. Modern pharmacological experiments show That Pongamia pinnata has antinociceptive and antipyretic activities,antibacterial activity,antiviral properly,anti-inflammatory activity,Antine-oplastic activity, etc. To better exploit and make good use of this mangrove plant ,we have made studies of the constituents of Pongamia Pinnata from Guangxi China .The 75% alcohol extract of pongamia pinnata leaves ,after careful column chromatography on silica gel column, poliamide column, macro-reticular resine column and Sephadex LH-20 column, resulted in the isolation of 10 compounds from its leaves. The structure of night compounds were identified by chemical and spectroscopic methods analysis as : n-dotriacontyl alcohol,taraxerol,Karanjin,Stigmasterel,pongaglabrone , pongachromene, pongapin, vitexin, tetratriacontanoic acid. The compounds n-dotriacontyl alcohol, taraxerol, vitexin and n-ditriacontanoic acid were isolated from this plant for the first time. Another compound is still could not be identified. The antioxidant effect of this plant has not been investigated in recent years .We, therefore, used Flow-injection Chemiluminescence to investigate the antioxidant effect of stem and leaves extracts from pongamia pinnata.The results suggest that both extracts have the ability of scavenging H2O2. Compared to two extracts ,the leaves extracts have significantly scavenge H2O2 than that of stems'.The abilities of scavenging H2O2 of the alcohol solutions from stem and leaves are higher than those of water phase'.The chloroform extract (3#)and ethyl acetate extract (4#) of leaves have the highest effect of scavenging H2O2 ,their's IC50 were lower than that of vitaminC.The results indicate pongamia pinnata has been used as a crude drug for the treatmeat of rheumatism maybe has relation to its antioxidant effect. |
