Objective: To study the relation between endovascular brachythrapy with 32P liquid filled balloon and restenosis, at the same time investigate the changes and the effection of matrix metalloproteinases and it's tissue inhibitors during this course. Methods: A total of 24 rabbits were injuried of double iliac arteries with balloon, then we feed them with cholesterol food for six weeks, the double iliac patients who had undergone coronary angiography entered the study. The rabbits were divided into three groups by different radiation dose: 1.9.1Gy; 2.21.8Gy; 3.33.4Gy. We procedured angioplasty and 32P brachytherapy at one side randomly, the other side non-radiative therapy was served as self-controled. Then, we continued to feed the rabbits with cholesterol food for five weeks. After that, the iliac artery angiography was performed to observe the target vessel restenosis degree; pathological sections of iliac arteries were observed with light-microscope, and the matrix metalloproteinase-2 , tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2 level was test with in situ hybridization. Results: After five weeks of brachytherapy, the resmlts were:(1) Angiography: the average luminal diameter stenosis was 55.2±14.47% in control vessels; 57.5±13.08% in9.1 Gy group; 25.27±5.77% in 21.8 Gy group; 78.33±14.72% in 33.4 Gy group.(2) Light-microscope and masson staining: strong neointimal proliferation and strait lumen were observed in the control vessels; there weren't obvious changes in 9.1 Gy group(P>0.05); in 21.8 Gy group, the proliferation and migration of smooth muscle cells was significantly suppressd, the lumen areas didn't decrease; but in 33.4 Gy group, the neointima thicked to make the...
