chromogranin A(CgA) as a marker in the diagnosis and treatment ofprostate cancer have received considerable affection in recent years. Objective To evaluate the application of CgA as a marker in thediagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer . Methods The samples of 30 cases with prosrare cancer(PCa) , 20cases with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and 5cases of healthysubjects were examined using immunohistochemical staining with CgA andneuron-specific antigen(NSE).Serum CgA and serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) were detected byimmunoradiometric essay in 27 cases of prostate cancer,27 cases of benignprostate hyperplasia and 5 cases of healthy subjects. Results The expression of CgA in PCa,BPH and healthy subjectswas 66.7% ,35% and 20%,and the expression of CgA in Pca wassignificantly higner than those in non- prostatic carcinoma (P <0.01) .Serum CgA(98.7±69.42) of patients with prostatic cancer wassignificantly higher than those of healthy subjects(32.68±26.58) and ofBPH(44.7±40.86) (P<0.05) and it increased with escalation of clinicalstage .Serum CgA of D stage was significantly higner than those inhealthy subjects and in B and C stage of prostate cancer (P<0.01).Theconbined assay of serum PSA and CgA could raise the detection rate ofprostate cancer .The sensitivity of parallel trials reached 85.2% and thespecificity of serial trials reached 96%。 Conclusions Serum CgA may be a useful marker for thedetermination of the neuroendocrine (NE) cells and differentiation inprostatic carcinoma . The determination of serum levels of CgA is usefulin the diagnosis of prostatic cancer, especially for patients who are PSAnegative or have distant metastasis .In the ptostate cancer, serum CgA canbe detected consistently by immunradiometric essay andimmunohistochemical staining. Serum CgA is elevated not only in theptostate cancer but also in various types of endocrine neoplasna ,inconsequence the application of CgA shoud be connected with PSA and theother information in clinic.
