Objective: To study the expression of Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), Transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-β1),monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1)in ectopic and eutopic endometrium in patients with adenomyosis. Methods: Using immunohistochemistry SP method, the expression intensity of VEGF and TGF-β1 was examined in ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium, compared with normal endometrium. The expression of MCP-1 mRNA in these paraffin embedded specimens was examined by in situ hybridization technique . Results: 1. VEGF can express either in endometriumal glands or intercells. VEGF expression in ectopic ,eutopic endometrium with adenomyosis was significantly higher compared with control group (P<0.01); No statistically significant difference were found between in ectopic endometrium and eutopic endometrium(P>0.01).2. TGF-β1 can express either in endometriumal glands or intercells. TGF-β1 expression in ectopic endometrium with adenomyosis was significantly higher compared with control group (P<0.01). No statistically significant difference were found between in ectopic endometrium and in eutopicendometrium with adenomyosis (P>0.01) . No statistically significant difference were found between in eutopic endometrium with adenomyosis and control group.(P>0.01).3.MCP-1 can express in three groups, but No statistically significant difference were found among them (P>0.01). 4.VEGF and TGF-pi have the positive relativety in the ectopic endometriumal expression of adenomyosis patient(P<0.05,r=0.556). VEGF and MCP-1 have the positive relativety in the ectopic endometriumal expression of adenomyosis patient (P<0.05,r=0.509). Conclusion: VEGF and TGF-pi can both significantly express in ectopic endometrium which were both the important cellular factors of promoting the vascular formation, VEGF and TGF-pi> VEGF and MCP-1 have the positive relativety in the ectopic endometrium. thus demonstrate they could probably play important roles in the pathogenesis of adenomyosis.
