In this paper,the chemical compositions of liquorice arestudied further.According to the references,many compounds wereisolated and identified as so far.There are many kinds ofcompounds in this herb,such as flavone,coumarin, aminoacid,alkaloid,estrogen,organic acid and so onModern pharmacological studies showed that the herb hadmany effects.It can relieve a cough and arteriosclerosis.It also hasantioxidant and anticancer. Especially it has anti-viruseffectinon,and has been used to inhibite the HIV and SARS. So itis a high valuble officinal. In oder to ascertain the relationbetween effect and the cintinents,we need do more research to findand identify more compound of liquorice.This paper is mainly about the isolations and identifacationof the compounds from the liquorice.The methods and results asfollow:Firstly the herb is extracted with 85% alcohol.secondly,thealcohol solution was evaporated with distillation method in orderto be concentrated. Thirdly,the concentrated solution wasdissolved with water.Then,the water layer was extracted withchloroform and acetic ether successively at room temperature.Finally,nine compounds were obtained from two extractedparts,which were dealt with silica gel chromatogram. Among ofthem,six compounds'structures were established and identified onthe basis of chemical and spectroscopicevidence(1HNMR,13CNMR).They areβ-Sitosterol,liquiritin ,isoliquiritigenin,isoliquirtin,licuraside,4′-O -[β-D-apiofuranosyl (1→2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl] liquiritigenin.
