Objective The purpose of this study is to investigate the protective effect of naringenin (NG) on focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats and its probable mechanism in order to provide the experiment support for the clinical therapy of ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Methods The treatment groups were given three different dose NG for 2 weeks before cerebral ischemia, The animal model of the right middle cerebral artery ischemia reperfusion was established by suture. We determine volume of the cerebral infarction to reflect the degree of brain injury. Water content of brain was assessed to reflect the degree of brain edema. And we observated inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and Cytochrome C (CytC) expression of brain tissue with immunohistochemical method and determined superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) content of the brain tissure.Results1. The injuring brain tissue has obvious infarction in model group. In NG treatment group, the infarction volume of brain is lower compared with model group. In NG treatment group , the infarction volume of brain is lessening in middle and high dose group compared with low dose group (P< 0.05).2. Compared with the NG treatment group, the edema is aggravated at injuring brain tissue in the model group which has been reperfused 24h after cerebral ischemia 2h. In NG treatment group, it has no significant difference with different dose group...
