Objective To study the expressions of nuclear factor kappa B (NF- κ B) and Ki67,CD34 in gastric carcinoma tissue and their clinical significance. Methods The expression of NF- κ B/p65 and Ki67, CD34 were examined immunohistochemically in 110 patients with gastric carcinoma, as well as in 30 patients of control group. Results The positive rate of NF-κ B/p65, Ki67 and micro-vessel density (MVD) were obviously higher in gastric carcinoma group than that in control group (p<0.001). The expression of NF-κ B/p65 and MVD were closely related to tumor size, histological differentiation, tumor infiltration, pathological stages, lymph node involvement or distant metastasis. The expression of Ki67 was also related to pathological differentiation, deepness of invasion, pathological stages and lymph node metastasis (p<0.05). The positive expressions" of NF-κB/p65 was highly correlated to Ki67 or MVD. The survival rate of NF-κB/p65 negative group was significantly higher than that of positive expression group (p<0.05).Conclusions The abnormal expression of NF- κB is correlated to the biological behaviors of gastric carcinoma. It may be a prognostic marker for gastric carcinoma. The activity of NF- κB was closely related to the expression of Ki67 and CD34. We suggested that NF- κB may play a key role in cell proliferation and angiogenesis in gastric carcinomas.
