IntroductionViral encephalitis is a commom disease in children. Especially severe viral encephalitis, its phthological changes such as brain ischemia and edema are very significant because of its long coma and frequent seizures. Without specific therapy method, It is easy to lead to neurological sequela. But with the development of Immunology , people found the high correlation between CNS inflammation and TNF —a. This report wants to evaluate the effect of Angong Niuhuang Wan by comparing the changes of TNF —a levels in CSF before and after the treatment with Angong Niuhang Wan in 30 patients with viral enceahalitis.Materials and MethodsThe diagnostic criteria of viral encephalitis is according to the 6th edition of 《Texbook of Pediatrics》 of Fu Tang Zhu. We chose the patients of coma or frequent seizures as object. The 30 patients from 2005. 6 to 2005. 10 are divided into 2 groups: the therapy group and the control group. Therapy group :13 patients, 8 male, 5 female, age: 3. 5-12 year, mean age is 7. 23± 1. 36. Control group:17 patients,9 male,8 female, age: 2. 8-13,mean age 7. 32 ± 1. 34 year.
