Study On Anti-epilepsy Effects Of The "Xi Feng(XF)" Oral Application Liquid

Objective:Epilepsy is defined as a syndrome of chronic and repeated temporary brain function aberration.Its physiological foundation is the nerve cells discharge.Today drug treatments for epilepsy have been improved,but using Western medicine to treat these disease still can be seen as the best one.The purpose of this study is to investigate a new traditional Chinese medicine XF oral application liquid.By contrasting the epileptic seizure of the rats,the activity of superoxid dismutase(SOD) in erythrocytes and the c-fos expression in hippocampus and cortex one hour after seizure,the therapeutic effect of this medicine can be evaluated and the mechanism of this medicine can be studied.Methods:40 adult male Wistar rats were divided randomly into 5 groups.The western medicine group was administrated with diphentoin.The tradition Chinese mdeicine group was administrated with XF oral application liquid.7days later,bemegride was peritoneal injected to induce epilepsy. Observing and recording the epileptic seizure of the rats,the activity of SOD in erythrocytes and the c-fos expression in hippocampus and cortex one hour after seizure.By constrasting the datas in every group,the effect of XF oral application liquid can be evaluated and the mechanism of action can be discussed.Results:Compared with the model group,the epileptic seizure was clearly inhibited in the western medicine group and the tradition Chinese mdeicine group.And the therapeutic effect of the high level tradition Chinese medicine is much better than the western medicine.The activity of SOD in erythrocytes is much lower in the model group than in the other groups. The activity of SOD in erythrocytes in the western medicine group and the tradition Chinese mdeicine group was no more different,but they were a little lower than the normal group and higher than the model group.The c-fos expression in hippocampus and cortex is much higher in the model group than in the other groups.
