Objective The difference of the expression of eIF4E, Survivin, STK15between larynx squamous cell carcinoma constitution and benign lesionand the correlation of eIF4E, Survivin, STK15 and larynx squamous cellcarcinoma were investigated to provide a theoretic basis of oncogenesis, assistant diagnosis for larynx squamous cell carcinoma. Methods Forty Paraffin-embedded laryngocarcinoma specimens wereselected to be used to investigate. The average age of the patients whounderwent surgery was 58 years. There were 37 male and 3 femalepatients, and 2 patients with metastasis of lymph nodes. Twenty polyps ofvocal cord specimens were selected be in the control group.Immunohistochemical (SP) analysis of all the specimens with polyclonalantibody to eIF4E, Survivin, STK15 was performed. Gradation of stainingdepended on intensity of staining and percentage of cells staining. Scoreswere ranked as staining, and statistically analyzed with x2, correlation andLogistic regression analysis. Results The expression rate of eIF4 in larynx squamous cell carcinomawas 97.65%, in vocal cord polyps was 65%. The expression rate ofSurvivin, in larynx squamous cell carcinoma was 65%, in vocal cordpolyps was 25%. The expression rate of STK15 in larynx squamous cellcarcinoma was 67.5%, in vocal cord polyps was 35%. There weresignificant differences of the expressions of eIF4, Survivin, STK15 in the larynx squamous cell carcinoma group and the polyps group (P<0.05).There were no differences of the expressions of eIF4, Survivin, STK15 inclinical staging and histological type(P>0.05). The relative risk of theoverexpression of eIF4, Survivin and STK15 was 1.54, 6.53, 2.64respectively. Their expression in larynx squamous cell carcinoma does notrelate to one another (P>0.05). Percentage correct of the commonexpression of eIF4, Survivin, STK15 on larynx squamous cell cacinomawas 88.3%. The logistic regression equation isP=e-9.705+0.463 x1+2.095 x2+0.958 x3/(1+e-9.705+0.463 x1+2.095 x2+0.958 x3) (x1:eIF4E, x2: Survivin, x3: STK15).Conclusion: The abnormal expression of eIF4, Survivin or STK15 inlarynx squamous cell carcinoma has no relationship with the clinicalstaging and pathological grading. The relative risk of the overexpressionof Survivin was the highest among the three kinds of the oncogenes. Theoverexpression of Survivin has more specificity on larynx squamous cellcarcinoma than the other two oncogenes, and they may have synergisticeffect in the genesis of larynx squamous cell carcinoma. Theoverexpression of eIF4, Survivin or STK15 is related with larynxsquamous cell carcinoma. The consequence of larynx squamous cellcarcinoma resulted from the multiple gene.
