Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as the second most common cause of death from cancer in China. Poor prognosis of HCC is mainly due to its high recurrence and metastasis.Angiogenesis,a neovascularization process during which endothelial cells of the preexisting capillaries proliferate and migrate to form new vascular tips,is critical for the growth, invasion and metastasis of HCC.VEGF is the major angiogenic growth factor. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the effects of antiangiogenic agents on VEGF would reflect their antiangiogenic bioactivity and efficacy.AIMS:To establish mouse hepatoma H22 and to study the effects of Pingtiaoyin on the tumor.METHODS:The models of mouse hepatoma H22 were made by vaccination of transplanted tumor in the right axilla. The mouse hepatoma H22 were divided into 4 groups:0.9% NaCl,Pingtiaoyin,Pingtiaoyin+5-Fu,5-Fu respectively. The diameter of transplanted tumor, inhibition rates, thymus and spleen index ,the rates of life prolongation and the expression of VEGF in carcinoma and peri-carcinoma tissues were observed. Statistical analysia was made.RESULTS:The diameter of the tumor and the expressions of VEGF in carcinoma was reduced, thymus and spleen index ,the inhibition rates and the life prolongation rates were upgraded after treatment of Pingtiaoyin .CONLUSIONS:Pingtiaoyin can inhibit the growth of tumor in mouse hepatoma H22 through increasing the reversion of hepatocarcinoma cells, reducing the proliferation of hepatocarcinoma cells, improving the immune function and downregulating the expression of VEGF in carcinoma and pre-carcinoma tissues.
