Objective: To investigate the expression of survivinand its relationship with expression of PTEN and cyclinD1. Methods: Immunohistochemical method(SP method) was used to detect theexpression of survivin, PTEN and cyclinD1 in 40 osteosarcoma tissuesand 20 osteochondroma tissues. Results: The expression rate of survivinwas significantly higher in osteosarcoma (62.5%) than inosteochondroma (10.0%) (P<0.01). The expression of PTEN wasdetected in a greater proportion of osteochondroma (95.0%) than inosteosarcoma (52.5%) (P<0.01). The positive expression rate of cyclinD1was higher in osteosarcoma (80.0%) than in osteochondroma (45.0%).There was a significantly positive correlation between survivin andcyclinD1, while negative correlation was observed between the survivinand PTEN expression in osteosarcoma. Conclusion: Survivin was overexpressed in osteosarcoma and PTEN can downregulate survivin.Survivin may play an promoting role and PTEN may play an protectiverole in the development of osteosarcoma. Survivin and cyclinD1 mightplay synergetic roles in the process of osteosarcoma.
