Physalis alkekengi is persistent calyx with fruits or the dried persistent calyx of physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (Mast.) Makino. The persistent calyx is bitter and the fruits are sweet and slight acidic. It has the function of clearing away heat and toxic materials, relieving sore-throat and is proved to have obvious clinical effect. We got eleven compounds from Physalis alkekengi through isolation. Eight of their structureshave been established by spectrum methods, which are 4,7-didehydroneophysalin B, physalin D, physalin P,β-sitosterol, luteolin, luteolin-7- glucoside, 3′,4′-dimethoxymyricetin and daucosterol. One of them named 3′,4′-dimethoxymyricetin is the first time isolated from this plant. Wesearched the antibacterial activity of extracts in ethanol in vitro and proved that it had obviously antibacterial activity, developing the demulcent therapy, reconciliation clinical application to provide the experiment basal for the new drugs.
