Jindenglong, named also Hongguniang or Guajindeng in Chinese, is a kind of plant of Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (Mast.) Makino. Its fruits are a common Chinese traditional medicine, used for detumescence, relieving a cough, dissipating phlegm, diuresising, strengthening heart, expelling toxin, clearing heat and removing clampness. It is stated in proved recipe that the fruits of Physalis alkekengi L. var.franehetii (Mast.)Makino are capable of treating diabetes mellitus, which is also proved by pharmacology.In this thesis, seven compounds are prepared from the extract of the fruits of Physalis alkekengi L. varfranchetii (Mast.)Makino by solvent extraction, silica gel column, Sephadex LH-20 column and recrystalizition. According to the physical and chemical characteristic and spectral method, their structures are identified as (1) long chain saturated fatty alcohol; (2)β—sitosterol; (3) 4,7—didehydro—neophysalin B; (4) physalin P; (5) luteolin; (6)quercetin; (7) dancosterol.For the first time, the fruits ofPhysalis alkekengi L. var. franchetii (Mast.)Makino are enriched and purified by D101 macroporous adsorption resin column. In addition, the experimental research that the different parts of polarity which were washed down from D101 macroporous adsorption res- in column make different effects upon the model of diabetes induced by alloxan in mice is carried out. The result that the 70% and 90% EtOH parts which washed down from D101 macroporous adso-rption resin column are the effective part is confirmedFor the first time, the total sterol contents of the different parts of polarity which were washed down from D101 macroporous adsorption resin column are determined by UV spectrophotometer technique. Respectively, the total sterol contents of 30%, 50%, 70%, 90% EtOH parts are 4.52%, 4.94%, 15.07% and 35.40%.For the first time, the 4,7—did hydro—neophysalin B contents of the different parts of polarity which were washed down from D101 macroporous adsorption resin column are determined by HPLC. There is no 4,7—didehydro—neophysalin B in 30% and 90% EtOH parts. Respectively, the 4,7—didehydro—neophysalin B contents of 50% and 70% EtOH parts are 0.88% and 2.41%...
