This thesis considers Spleen govern intelligence and collected a lot of old and new, domesticand foreign data and information and synthesized various theories about the relationship ofSpleen and intelligence to demonstrate the view. In order to provide the possible theoretical andexperimental evidences for effective prescription which is suitable to treat AD in TCM clinicalpractice, the thesis also discussed the relative researches of treating Alzheimer's Disease (AD)mainly by invigorating spleen from various theoretical and experimental levels. In the theoretical study section, this thesis discusses the deeper meaning of the spleen storingthe mind and governing thought, and discusses the relationship of the spleen to both the otheremotions and to the brain, and draw the conclusion that Spleen govern intelligence. Thenaccording to the theory of the relationship between Spleen & intelligence, this paper probedthoroughly into what important effects spleen and stomach have in the mobility process of AD.We established the basic constitution of treatment to AD, which was invigorating the spleen torefresh mental activities and developed the QIANGPI YIZHI Capsule (QPC) to treat AD. Basingon the past effective results of clinical and animal studies, we designed the animal experiment totake further step to reveal the possible mechanism how the method of the treatment acted. In the experimental study section, the rats were divided into four groups, including thenormal control, the model, the Piracetam (the western medicine), the QPC (the TCM), and copiedto AD model. After the treatment, we observed the effects on the AD rats' ethology, detectingthe expression of neurotrophin-3 in brain hippocampus CA1 district of the AD rats, and the AChEactivity of AD rats' blood serum, then comparing the QPC with other groups to reveal themechanism of action of the QPC treating AD to bright. The results showed that, after treatment the group of TCM rats had been obviously improvedthe ability of learning and memory, such as gaining, saving and reappearinginformation ,associative learning and so on, with marked differences comparing to the modelgroup(P<0.05, P<0.01); and had been obviously increased the expression of neurotrophin-3 inbrain hippocampus CA1 district with very marked difference compared to the model group (P<0.01) ,and had been obviously improved the AChE activity of AD rats' blood serum with amarked difference from the model group (P<0.05, P<0.01) . It indicated that QPC couldimprove the learning and memory ability to treat AD probably through better cholinergic nervecenter system and monamine nerve center system and protecting hippocampus neuron, restraining the inflammation reactions which may have relations with the formation of senileplague.
