Objective: To investigate the relationships of serum interleukin 10(IL-10) and interleukin 18(IL-18) levels and HBV DNA in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB).Methods: The levels of HBV DNA and IL-10 and IL-18 in serums from 98 patients with CHB and 30 normal controls were measured by nucleic acid fluorescent quantitation PCR and ELISA method. The level of ALT and TBIL were also measured. The data were shown as mean±standerd deviation, the comparison among multi-samples were performed by ANOVA,the correlation among variables was meansured by linear regression. All statistical analysis were complished by spss verdion 11.0 software package. Results: The level of IL-10 and IL-18 in serums was statistically higher in patients with CHB than those in controls (P< 0.05) .The level of IL-10 was significant difference between each group of HBV infectors(P< 0.05). To the level of IL-18 , was no significant difference between each group of HBV infectors(P> 0.05). The level of IL-10 in the patients with serious CHB was higher than that in the patients with mild and mod -erate CHB ( P<0.01). The level of IL-18 in the patients with serious CHB was higher than in the patients with mild and moderate CHB ( P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between serum IL-10 levels and serum IL-18 levels,HBV DNA(r were 0.785,0.736,0.277,0.475,P<0.01). There was a positive correlation between serum IL-10 levels and serum IL-18 levels,ALT(r were 0.208,0.198,0.174,P<0.05).Conclusions: The results suggested that IL-10 may play an important role in persistent infection of HBV in patient with CHB and inhibit the secretion of IL-18.It was found there was a correlation between IL-18 and the degree of liver damage in patients with hepatitis B.
