Objective:To investigate the relationship between the clinicopathologicalfeatures and the expression of VEGF in diferentiated thyroidcarcinoma(DTC). To study the expression of VEGF-C in thyroid carcinomaand its relation with lymph node metastasis. Methods:The VEGF&VEGF-Cexpression was detected by immunohistochemistryin 57 DTCs(43 cases of papillary and 14 cases of follicular),45hyperplastic lesions(31 cases of goiters. 12 cases of adenomas and 2Cases of Graves diseases)and 19 normal thyroid tissues that had beenfixed in formalin and embedded in paraffin. Results:The expression of VEGF was significantly higher in cancer tissuethan in hyperplastic lesions and normal tissues (P<0.05). Theproportion of overexpression of VEGF was higher statistically in T3/T4 stage, poor prognostic, recurrent Cases than in control groups(P<0.05). There was a positive correlation between the staining Scoreof VEGF and the prognosis score of DTC (r=0.320, p=0.015).Conclusion:The overexpression of VEGF is an auxiliary diagnosis andprognosis marker for DTC. To detect VEGF by immunohistochemistryfacilitates us to identify poor-prognostic cases from DTC patients, Theexpression of VEGF—C closely correlated with lymph node metastasis.
