Objective: To investigate the prevalence of cytotoxin associated gene ( cagA) and vaculating toxin gene A (vacA) of Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) in patients with upper gastric disease among the Uygur and Han populations in xinjiang area and to assess the relationship between cagA and vacA and H.pylori related gastroic disease. Methods: Totally 92 H.pylori strains ,were isolated from patients with chronic gastroic disease in xinjiang area. Bacterial DNA from all these strains was extracted with method of Chelex 100. The prevalence and genetic diversity in cagA and vacA sequence were studied by the technique of polymerase chain reaction ( PCR). Result: In xinjiang area,92 H.pylori cagA positive rate was 84.8%.There was no significantly difference in cagA gene between Han population and Uygur population and between different gastric diseases (P>0.05).vacA s1a?s2?m1b?m2 positive rate respectively was 62.0%?4.3%?18.5%?67.4%. vacA m2 positive rate of the Han population lower than the Uygur,s, vacA m1b positive rate of the Han population higher than the Uygur,s in patients with gastric cancer (P<0.05). vacA m2 positive rate of the patients with gastric ulcer higher than vacA m2 positive rate of the patients with gastric cancer in Han population, vacAm1b positive rate of the patients with gastric ulcer lower than vacA m1b positive rate of the patients with gastic cancer and chronic superficial gastritis in Han population(P<0.05). Conclusion: In xinjiang area, distribution of cagA was not different between Han population and Uygur population and between different gastric diseases; vacA m2 positive rate of the Han population lower than the Uygur,s. vacA m1b positive rate of the Han population higher than the Uygur,s in patients with gastric cancer. vacA m2 positive rate of the patients with gastric ulcer higher than vacA m2 positive rate of the patients with gastric cancer in Han population, vacAm1b positive rate of the patients with gastric ulcer lower than vacAm1b positive rate of the patients with gastic cancer and chronic superficial gastritis in Han population.
