Objective: To study the relationship between relative bladder outlet obstruction and bladder emptying and the significance for benign prostatic hypertrophy(BPH).Method: Urodynamic examinations were conducted to 66 cases of clinically diagnosed BPH who were older than 55. The relationship between relative bladder outlet obstruction and post-void residual volume(PVR) was assessed. The patients with a weak detrusor on urodynamics prior to surgery are followed up one year after surgery .Results: A-G number and URA had correlation coefficient values of 0.272 (r<0.5,P<0.05)and 0.368 (r<0.5,P<0.01)against PVR, respectively. A-G number/WFmax and URA/ WFmax had correlation coefficient values of 0.581(r>0.5,P<0.01)和0.704 (r>0.5,P<0.01)against PVR, respectively. The relationship between parameters of relative bladder outlet obstruction(A-G number/WFmax and URA/ WFmax) and PVR was greater than the relationship between A-G number,URA and PVR . Five of those patients with a weak detrusor on PFS prior to surgery are followed up one year afterward .Four cases have significant improvement after surgery in terms of International Prostate Symptom Score, Bother Score, maximum flow rates and post-void residual volume, while one patient has no improvement ,whose ultrasonograph assessment indicates prostatic residual or recurrence. Conclusion: The parameters of relative bladder outlet obstruction are good at evaluation for bladder emptying and thus clinically useful.
