Objective To study the effects of ShengJingBao on spermatogenesis in mouse oligospermia model and approach related mechanism.Methods Experimental mice were divided into 3 groups randomly: ShengJingBao group(group 1), Vitamin E group(group 2), blank model control group(group 3), which were were treated by celiac injection of cyclophosphamide continuously for 5 days. The mice in group 1 and group 2 were fed intragastric administration with ShengJing Bao(2g/kg.d) and Vitamin E(75mg/kg.d) respectively after modeling. All mice were put to death on 36th day after intragastric administration. In each group, the serum testosterone(T) and LH level were detected by radioimmunology; one side testis and epididymis tissues were smashed to suspension for semen analysis; the other side testis tissues were sliced up and stained by HE method and TUNEL technique for counting the amount of Leydig's cells and layers of spermatogenetic epithelium and detecting spermatogenic cells apoptosis. Statistic methods were 2 group t test.Results Compared to group 3, the general state, serum T level, layers of spermatogenetic epithelium and amount of Leydig's cells in group 1 and group 2 were improved, those in group 1 better than group 2. The positive expression rate of spermatogenic cells apoptosis in group 1 was lower than that in group 2 and group 3. All the above difference exists statistical significance(p<0.01 or p<0.05). Conclusion ShengJingBao can increase markly amount of Leydig's cells to secrete T influencing spermatogenetic epithelium for recovering spermatogenesis. The functional mechanism may suppress spermatogenic cells apoptosis to facilitate spermatogenesis. T may induce suppression of spermatogenic cells apoptosis.
