【Objective】To study the expression of RCAS1 in prostate carcinomas and to evaluate their significance in the progression and prognosis of the prostate carcinoma.【Methods】Expression of RCAS1 was investigated by immunohistochemistry technique with 58 cases of postate carcinoma (PCa)and 18 cases of benign prostate hyperplasia(BPH).And the expression of RCAS1 was also detected by RT-PCR and Western blot in 8 cases with prostate tissues(4 cases of Pea and 4 cases of BPH).【Results】The ratio of RCAS1 protein expression was increased in PCa tissues(75.9%,44/58)compared to BPH cases(16.7%,3/18)(P<0.01)by using streptavidin-biotin pemxidase(S-P) method.Within the specimens of PCa group, the differences were statistically significant among various WHO pathological grade and clinical stage(P<0.05).There was a negative correlation between the RCAS1 expression and pathological grades(P<0.01).However,there was a positive correlation between the expression of RCAS1 and clinical grades(P<0.01).Both RT-PCR and Western blot showed that the expression of RCAS1 in Pca tissues was much high than BPH tissues(P<0.01)【Conclusion】The present data suggested that high expression of RCAS1 in Pca tissues, and its expression was related to the tumor pathological grade and the tumor clinical stage.Analysis of RCAS1 expression in prostate carcinoma was useful for us to estimate the pathological grade, clinical stage and prognosis.
