Objective: The serum levels of placenta growth factor (PlGF) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) were measured in patients with essential hypertension(EH). Toinvestigate the function of PlGF in essential hypertension. Methods: 60 patients with essential hypertension, who came from the second hospital affiliated with the HEBEI Medical University. All patients who all coincided with 2005 China Guidelines on Prevention and Management of High Blood Pressure diagnostic standard were enrolled. All subjects had excluded: secondary hypertension; coronary heart disease; Liver and Kidney disease; malignant tumors; valvular heart disease; acute or chronic infection; recent trauma or surgery; connective tissue diseases; hematologic diseases . 29 males and 31 females , with average age of (62.8±10.4) years. The patients were divided into two groups by no or yes the left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Standard of LVH: LVMI (male) > 134g/m2 and LVMI (female) > 110g/m~2 or interventricular septal thickness > 12mm.Another 30 healthy people were in control group (12 males and 18 females), with average age of (52.1±6.6) years. In the every group ,blood samples were taken from vein only once. Then all samples were collected in tube, using centrifugal machine, 3000r/min, centrifuging 15min, and the serum in Eppendorf was preserved in -80℃refrigerator.We compared the serum levels of PlGF and Hs-CRP among those study groups and analyzed the correlation of PlGF and Hs-CRP.Results: 1. The serum levels of PlGF and Hs-CRP in patients with EH [(12.98±4.13) pg/L, (7.44±5.47) mg/L] were significantly higher than those of in control group [(9.56±2.63)pg/L (2.22±1.04)mg/L ( P<0.01 ) ]. 2.Comparing with the group of patients without LVH , the serum levels of PlGF and Hs-CRP in patients with LVH [(15.52±4.14) pg/L, (10.68±7.75) mg/L]were significantly higher than those of in EH without LVH[(12.11±3.82)pg/L, (5.60±2.53)mg/L(P<0.01)]. 3.The data showed significantly positive relation between PlGF and Hs-CRP(r=0.531; P<0.01). 4.The data showed significantly positive relation between systolic blood pressure(SBP) and PlGF(r=0.579; P<0.01).5. The data showed positive relation between SBP and Hs-CRP(r=0.343,P<0.05).Conclusion:The serum levels of PlGF and Hs-CRP are increased obviously in patients with EH. There was positive relation between SBP and PlGF,and also had positive relation between SBP and Hs-CRP. There was positive relation between Hs-CRP and PlGF. The serum level of PlGF may be helpful to evaluate the severity of heart function of EH.
