Objective TO investigate the relationship of levels of serum tumornecrosis factor-α(TNF-α),transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)andinsulin-like growth factorⅠ(IGF-Ⅰ) with essential hypertension (EH)and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients.Method 80 patients with EH were recruited and divided into 3 subgroupsof EH 1-3, and 30 healthy persons were enlisted as the control group. Thevalue of left ventricular mass index (LVMI) of all these cases wereevaluated by Doppler echocardiography. Patients were divided into NLVHgroup and LVH group by LVMI. The blood samples were obtained from all thesubjects in fasting condition in the morning. The serum levels of TNF-α, TGF-β1 and IGF-Ⅰwere measured by ELISA method. Then statisticalsynthesis was done.Results①The serum levels of TNF-α,TGF-β1 and IGF-Ⅰin patientswith EH were significantly higher than that in healthy persons, p<0.01.②There was significant difference in the levels of TNF-α,TGF-β1 andIGF-Ⅰamong the 3 clinical grading of EH p<0.01,p<0.01,p<0.05.③The levels of TNF-α,TGF-β1 and IGF-Ⅰwere higher in LVH group thanthat in NLVH group, p<0.01,P<0.05,P<0.05; and their levels had positivecorrelation with LVMI, r=0.60,p<0.01; r=0.46, p<0.05;r=0.41, p<0.05.Conclusions①TNF-α,TGF-β1,and IGF-Ⅰserving as cytokines areinvolved in the pathophysiology of EH. They also increased according tothe severity of EH.②TNF-α,TGF-β1 and IGF-Ⅰact as important rolesin the occurrence and development of LVH, and their levels evaluates theseverity of LVH better.
