Objective: To evaluate the effect of hepatic VX2 tumor model treated by radiofrequency ablation (RFA), external high frequency thermotherapy (HFH) and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE).Methods:we replicated the model of hepatic tumor via transplantation and treated it with RFA,TACE and HFH. All the experimental rabbits was divided into four groups based on the different combination: group A:RFA+TACE+HFH, group B: RFA+HFH, group C: FA+TACE ,Group D : TACE+HFH.Results:1. After treatment,ALT and AST increased obviously on the first day in all groups, especially group A and C. In group B,however,ALT and AST was the lowest on the first day. After treatment 4th days, ALT and AST starts to decrease gradually. In the 2nd week after treatment, it was decreased to normal(P>0.05).2. The gross tumor volume deflated significantly after therapy in group A, group B and group C compared with that before the treatment(P<0.05),while the gross tumor volume of group D increased obviously after treatment(P<0.05).3. In the 2nd week after treatment, the lesion of complete necrosis rate was the highest in group A (P<0.05), while the metastasis rate was the lowest (P<0.05) by pathological section exam.4. Proliferating cells nuclear antigen index (PI) was the lowest in group A(P<0.05). However positive expression of HSP70 were the highest and positive expression of MMP-2 were the lowest in group A (P<0.05).5. The survival time and survival rate within 3 months was the longest in group A (P<0.05).Conclusions: Sequential therapy on the VX2 hepatoma model in rabbits by using TACE, RFA combined with HFH have obvious effect on preventing tumor tissue from growing up apparently, reducing the tumor metastasis rate and increasing the focus complete necrosis rate. Sequential therapy could significantly enhance the immunopotency of antitumors, inhibit tumor cell proliferation and cut down tumor potentiality of invasion. Sequential therapy could markedly prolong the survival time and increase the survival rate of experimental rabbits. But the combined therapeutic regimen also causes more fluctuation to liver function during the procedure. We should think considerately when applying the sequential therapy.
