The climacteric syndrome is a high-morbidity common disease seen during the transitional period from sexual maturity to senility . It refers to a series of symptoms occurring during the peri-menopausal period, that due to the gradual declination of the ovarian function and the fluctuative decrease of the woman' estrogen level, resulting in vegetative nerve functional disturbance and psychological changes. Perimenopausal syndrome is used to be called "climacteric systems". In 1994, WHO abolished the wording of "climacteric systems", and then take the word "perimenopause" into use. As the consequence, "perimenopausal syndrome" take place the wording of "climacteric systems". With the aging of population in our country, the disease shows the tendency that the period for occurrence is ahead of time and the incidence rate is rising, which influence the living quality of the woman in this age period seriously.Objective: To observe the effect of Gegen on ovary and uterus in 13～15 monthes female ratsMethod : Fifty female wistar rats agesl3~15 months which were identified to be PM if the smear of abscission cell in vagina having no estrous cycle, were divided into 5 groups: PM model group, high does Gegen group, low does of Gegen group, western medicine group, and Geng nian kang (GNK) control group with 10 rats in each group .Additional 10 female rats aged 5 months were selected as young control group.All the rats were killed 4 weeks later to remove the ovaries and weight of uterus each rat, At the same time, we observe the ultrastructure of ovary granulose cells through electronic.Result: Gegen can increase female wister rats weight of uterus and ovarian granulose cellsConclusion: Gegen has estrogen-like activities, the paper provide experimentaldate for developing new drugs of treating perimenopause in clinic .
