Through the mouse tail suspension test and mouse forced swimming test study, we found that Hypericum ascyron L. extractive could reduce the hanging tail mice and mice forced to swim time of despair significantly. So, Hypericum ascyron L. extractive has obvious antidepressant effect in the acts of desperation on the model. Also, we studied its acute toxicity test, found the antidepress effective part, using GC-MS analysis the volatile oil of Hypericum ascyron L.. Consideration and discussion of the plant from the relationship with Hypericum common characteristics and the depression fundamental theory in traditional Chinese medicine, try to analysis the relationship with volatile oil and the antidepressant effect, and flavonoids and the antidepressant effect, and all of them is to explore and expand Hypericum ascyron L. of the antidepressant effect.This study could explore and expand the resources of Hypericum ascyron L., could broaden the natural medicine resources of China, could develop a highly efficient and low toxicity of the natural antidepressant drugs, and it could provide reference for theoretical basis to them.
