Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of transurthral electrovaporization of the prostate(TUVP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) at high risk. Methods: The clinical condition and surgical risks of 57 BPH patients were preoperatively evaluated and properly adjusted during perioperative period. 57 BPH at high risk patients and 57 patients with no complications cases were randomly selected treated were treated with transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate (TUVP) from the December 2003 to the December 2007. The clinical date and therapeutic results were measured and compared between the 2 groups. Results: All patients safely get through perioperiative period. All patients have been followed up for 3 months .The curative effect was satisfactory. In no complications group, post-void residual(PVR), the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS)and quality of life(QOL) before operations were(50.6±5.8) ml, (22.8±1.4) scores, (4.9±0.6)scores; postvoid residual (PVR), the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) and quality of life(QOL) after operations were(8.6±4.4) ml, (4.6±1.2) scores, (1.2±0.6)scores; while in high risk group, these parameters before operations were(58.9±6.8)ml, (28.5±2.6) scores, (5.2±0.8) scores, after operations were(9.6±3.6)ml, (4.4±1.0) scores, (1.4±0.8) scores, these parameters were significantly improved after both procedures(p < 0.05), but there was no significant difference in the above parameters between 2 groups(p> 0.05). the mean IPSS score and QOL score evidently decreased, and the PVR significantly decreased . There were no serious complications observed. Conclusion: 1. Transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate (TUVP) can significantly improve symptoms of dysuria patients and have higher curative effect.2. Transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate (TUVP) can be used in high-risk patients.
