ObjectiveTo explore the relationship of P73,P53 and uPA expressions with clinicopathological factors and prognosis by examining their expression in the oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC) tissues and epithelium immediately adjacent to carcinoma(EAC),and to investigate the correlation of the three protein.To provide the theoretical and scientific basis for the early diagnosis,prevention and treatment of OSCC.MethodsThe expresstion of P73,P53and uPA were tested in 50 cases of OSCC include carcinoma and EAC by immunohistochemistry method(universal two-step method).Then the results were evaluated by computeraided image analysis and the statistical analyses of average optical density(AOD) were done.Results1.The expressions of P73 in OSCC were significantly higher than in EAC(u=2.798,P<0.01).The expression of P73 was positively related with T classification(r=0.288,P < 0.05),invasive pattern(r=0.327,P < 0.05),clinical stage(r=0.315,P<0.05) and regional lymph node metastasis(r=0.374,P<0.01),but no distinct difference with sex,age,tumor region,and pathology grading in 50 cases of OSCC.2.The expressions of P53 in OSCC were significantly(higher than in EAC(u=2.913,P<0.01).The expression of P53 was positively related with the differentiation of pathological grading(r=0.283,P < 0.05),regional lymph nodem metastasis(r=0.294,P<0.05),but no distinct difference with sex,age,T classification, tumor region invasive pattern and clinical stage in OSCC.3.The expressions of uPA in OSCC were significantly higher than in EAC(u=2.749,P<0.01).The expression of uPA was positively related with T classification(r=0.322,P < 0.05),invasive pattern(r=0.375,P < 0.01),clinical stage(r=0.291,P<0.05) and regional lymph node metastasis(r=0.391,P<0.01),but no distinct difference with sex,age,tumor region,and pathology grading in OSCC. 4.The expression of P73 had no obvious correlated with P53(r=0.172,P> 0.05).The expression of uPA had no obvious correlated with P53(r=0.227,P> 0.05).The expression of uPA had obvious correlated with P73(r=0.297,P > 0.05).Conclusion1.It is speculated that P73 gene might be not tumor suppressor gene.2.P73,P53 protein and uPA are significantly related to the occurrence and development of OSCC.Their expressions may become useful reference indexes in judging invasion and metastasis,evaluating prognosis and guiding treatmentclinical prognosis of OSCC.3.The over-expressions of P73 is no significantly related to the gene mutation of P53.The expressions of P73 and p53 are independent factors for estimating the prognosis of OSCC.4.P73 protein maybe have mutual concurrent effects with uPA,and the exact mechanism needs further study.
