The hyperplasia, invasion and metastasis of carcinoma rely on angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. Vascular endothelial growth factor-C, is a specific regulatory factor of endothelial cell of blood and lymphatic vessels, which can promote the growth of endothelial cell by combining with receptors VEGFR-2 and VEGFR-3, and then promote the invasion and metastasis of many malignant tumor. Many studies all found that VEGF-C and its receptors were overexpressed , such as breast cancer, colon cancer, long cancer, prostatic cancer, thyroid carcinoma, laryngeal cancer and so on. The block to signal of VEGF-C/VEGFR-3 is expected to be a newly utility method to resist metastasis of tumor. This article reviews VEGF-C about its structure, function and its possible mechanism in malignant tumor, blood route metastasis, lymphatic metastasis and current progress of inhibition of metastasis of malignant tumor.
