Objective:To explore the expression of endothelial growth factor-D (VEGF-D) and urokinase-type plasminogen activator(uPA) in colorectal cancer and its role in neoplasm metastasis. Methods: The expression of VEGF-D and uPA in 30 cases of colon carcinoma (including 30 cases of corresponding normal tissues)and 28 cases of rectal cancer(including 28 cases of corresponding normal tissues) was detected by immunohistochemistry and Western bolt. Results: The rate of expression of VEGF-D and uPA was high both in colon cancer and rectal cancer, they expressed mostly in endochylema. In colorectal cancer, the expression of VEGF-D or uPA in Ducks C+D is higher than that expressed in Ducks A+B(p﹤0.01),they express highly in the group of colorectal cancer with lymphatic and distant metastasis than the group without metastasis, and there is a trend of depression of expression with the increase of differentiation grade. In the group of lymphatic and distant metastasis, the expression of VEGF-D and uPA in rectal cancer was higher than that in colon cancer, there was a significance of statistical analysis in the difference(P<0.05),the same result existes in DucksC+D,but we do not find the same result in DucksA+B,in the groups of ages and sexes, the expression of VEGF-D and uPA showes no difference(p﹥0.05).Conclusion: The different expression of VEGF-D and uPA between colon cancer and rectal cancer may offer us a new method in the aftertreatment of paitents who suffered carcinoma of large intestine.
