Objective To investigate the expression of Ezrin and E-cadherin ,as well as their correlations with the invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Materials and Methods 42 cases of nasopharyngeal poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma were selected, each of the four sections specimens were HE staining, immunohistochemical sp method and negative control. According to the staining results of the expression of Ezrin and E-cadherin, while follow-up of the selected cases .The results of statistical rests conducted by spss 16.0.Results Ezrin was positive expression only in one of 10 cases of chronic nasopharyngitis (1/10),but 28 cases of positive expression(28/42) in nasophyaryngeal carcinoma, positive signal linearity distributed along the inside of cell membrane ,as well as some in the cytolymph as brown slurry particle. Ezrin expression was closed corrected with depth of invasion(p=0.001) ,lymph node metastasis(p=0.015)and TNM stage(p=0.028),not with gender and age; and E-cadherin was decreased or completely loss in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (P <0.01),and was closed corrected with depth of invasion(p=0.023) ,lymph node metastasis(p=0.039)and TNM stage(p=0.003),not with gender and age; by Spearman correlation analysis, Ezrin and E-cadherin in nasopharyngeal carcinoma expression was negatively correlated (r =- 0.450, P <0.01); survival analysis showed that positive expression of Ezrin, tumor TNM staging, decreased of E-cadherin expression were associated with survival rate of post-operation.CONCLUSIONS1. Excess expression of Ezrin protein and E-cadherin expression weakened or lost is closely related to primary tumor of invasion, TNM stage, lymph node metastasis, which suggested that the high expression of Ezrin protein may play an important role in development, invasion and metastasis of nasopharyngeal cancer.2. The relationship of Ezrin and E-cadherin in nasopharyngeal carcinoma is significantly negative correlation.3. Combined detection can be used as a valid set of tumor marker and prognostic indicator of nasopharyngeal carcinoma , and they can be used as biological signs to assess recurrence risk of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
