To Compare The Effect Between Electro-Acupuncture Combined With Auricular Plaster Therapy And Catgut Implantation Combined With Auricular-Plaster Therapy On Simple Obesity

AIM: To compare the effect between electro-acupuncture with auricular plaster and catgut implantation and auricular-plaster therapy on simple obesity according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Acupuncture point Theory.METHODS: Totally 37 cases including 3 males and 34 females with simple obesity were selected from the out-patient service of losing weight of Jiansu Province Chinese Medical Hospital in Nanjing between July 2008 and February 2009. The patients were divided into two groups, one treated with electro-acupuncture with auricular plaster and the second treated with catgut implantation and auricular-plaster therapy according to the principle in Traditional Chinese Medicine of determination of treatment based on the differentiation of symptoms and signs. Nine or 10 points were treated every time in both therapies, using body and abdominal acupoints, after needling the patient received 4 lines of electro-acupuncture in main and accompanied acupoints with a strong wave intensity for 30 minutes. Electro-acupuncture was given every day, ten times one course of treatment and checked after three courses (30days). Catgut implantation was conducted once a week, four times in one course (30days). Method of auricular-plaster: Wang bu liu xing was fixed then stuck to the auricular points and asked the patients to press them5-7 times every day. The auricular points must be pressed for 2-3minutes, 30 minutes before meals every day. Treatments on the two ears were done alternatively, changing ears every three days until the end of the course. The patients were observed one month before and after self-comparison, and the clinical effect on body weight, body mass index BMI, FAT percent, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist/hip ratio, waist/height index were analyzed.RESULTS: The 37 cases of simple obesity were all included in the results analysis.â‘ After one month of treatment for the electro-acupuncture combined with auricular plaster therapy group among 14 cases, 9 cases were effective; the rate of total effectiveness was 64.3%. The catgut implantation combined with auricular-plaster group among 23 cases, 5 cases were effective; the rate of total effectiveness was 21.7%;â‘¡Body weight, body mass index BMI, FAT percent, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist/hip ratio, waist/height index of the 37 cases decrease after treatment with a big notably difference in the electro-acupuncture combined with auricular plaster therapy group. There was significant difference between the statistics before and after the treatment (P<0.01). Body mass index BMI, FAT percent, waist circumference decreased particularly;â‘¢Significant difference could be found comparing the statistics before and after the treatment (P<0.01).CONCLUSION: electro-acupuncture combined with auricular plaster therapy has a significant statistic difference with catgut implantation combined with auricular-plaster group in the function of reducing body weight, body measures and fatness, reaching a rebuilding of the body shape; has also the effect through metabolisms adjustment to decrease energy absorption and increasing energy consumption making possible our objective.
