Clinical Study Of Catgut Implantation At Acupoint On Female Patients With Simple Obesity In Stomach-Heat And Dampness-Stagnation Type

Objective: Through observing the effect of catgut implantation atacupoint on leptin (LP) and some parameters relating to female patientswith simple obesity in stomach-heat and dampness-stagnation type, one ofthe syndromes classified by TCM diagnosis, we can explore the actionmechanisms of catgut implantation at acupoint in women with simpleobesity.Method: 40 cases of obese women were randomly divided into two groups:the therapy group(20 cases) were treated with catgut implantation atacupoint manipulation, the contrast group (20 cases) were treated withacupuncture manipulation. The varieties of the following items wereinvestigated: clinical therapeutic effects and the level of LP in serum.Results: (1) In two groups, the weight and waistline of patients aredifferent between before and after the therapy (P＜0.05),and body massindex (BMI) and percentage of body fat (F％) in obese patient are bothsignificantly different between before and after treatment (P＜0.01). (2)In two groups, concentration of serum LP level in obese patients presenteda notable difference between before and after the therapy(P＜0.01).However, comparing two groups after the treatment, concentration of serumLP level had no difference (P＞0.05). (3) There was no difference betweentwo groups in terms of therapeutic effects according to Chi-Square testafter the therapy. (4) Serum LP level was positively correlated with weight, BMI and waistline (P＜0.05 or P＜0.01).Conclusions: It is suggested that effect of catgut implantation atacupoint manipulation on several parameters in women with simple obeseis positive. It possesses the abilities of decreasing the serum LP leveland improving the weight, waistline, BMI and F％of obese patients, and thepossible action mechanisms of catgut implantation at acupoint combinedwith diet manipulation include the following process: through decreasingthe level of serum LP and rectifing leptin resistance, ingestion behavioris adjusted, calore intake is restrained, and in the meantime energyexpenditure is increased, the purpose of losing weight is realizedfinally.
