Objective:The aim of this study is to survey the potential relationship between oral lichen planus (OLP) and human herpes virus-7,8(HHV-7, HHV-8).Methods:According to strict criteria and exclusion criteria, seriously selected 20 OLP patients and 20 healthy controls, and meanwhile collected their 5 kind-samples involving WBC, serum, saliva, exfoliated cell (un-lesion and lesion sections). Using viral DNA purification kit to extract the total DNA of all samples. Construct standard DNA standard by HHV-7 and HHV-8 virus and detect the concentration and purity. Using cycling probe to construct standard curve for absolute quantification of the test samples, explore the positive cases and the DNA copies. Analysis the potential relationship between HHV-7,8 and OLP pathogenesis by statistical methods. Results:The only HHV-7 positive rate is in OLP saliva 30%(6/20). The counterpart in healthy controls is also in saliva 15%(3/20). However, the copy of HHV-8 could not be detected in all samples. The Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U test showed that HHV-7 was not significantly closely related with OLP pathogenesis (X2=1.290, P=0.256>0.05, U=8, P=0.796 >0.05)Conclusion:1. HHV-7 is widely lurking in the crowd, which is not directly related with pathogenesis of OLP.2. HHV-7 in the local population has certain proportions, saliva is an important media. Derived from the saliva, simple, noninvasive, it can be used as an initial screening method of HHV-7.3. HHV-8 may not be related with the pathogenesis of OLP.
