Objective:To investigate whether estrogen receptors(ER), progester-one receptors(PR) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) exist in the resected primary pulmonary carcinoma in human being and illuminate the link between the expression of ER, PR and VEGF of the lung cancer tissue and its correlation of clinical significance. To investigate the expression of ER, PR and VEGF which influence 3-year survival by retrospective study.Methods:145 patients who had undergone resectable therapy for lung cancer between January 2005 and May 2006 were followed-up(end time was May 2009)to make certain how long the survival was and know the time and cause if the patients had been dead. The experimental group was 50 cases lung cancer(age range was 44-71 years old, median 59 years old)who had result of follow-up.The control group consisted of 50 cases of resected pulmonary inflammatory pseudotumor.S-P immunohistochemistry technique was applied to detect the expression of ER,PR and VEGF in paraffine-embedded specimen.Corresponding clinical data were obtained from the medical record department of the 2nd affiliated hospital of Dalian Medical College and the affiliated XinHua hospital of Dalian College.Results:1.Patients had positive rate for estrogen, progesterone receptors and Vascular endothelial growth factor in the lung cancer tissue was 62%,48% and 58% respectively, but no evidence of estrogen or progesterone immunoreactivity was present in the control group. The positive rate of VEGF was 2% in the control group. The positive rate of ER,PR and VEGF was markedly higher than control group(P<0.01).2. There was no significant influence of positive rate of ER,PR and VEGF in the lung cancer tissue with pathological classification(P>0.05).3.The ER,PR and VEGF expression was not obviously associated with age and sex of lung cancer patients(P>0.05).4.The tumor size was not significantly correlated with ER,PR and VEGF level in those lung cancer patients(P>0.05).Whether lymphatic metastasis or not wasn't found a statistically significant correlation of ER and PR expression(P>0.05),but that was correlated with VEGF level(P<0.05). The differences of ER,PR and VEGF expression in lung cancer were significantly related to the degrees of histological grading (P<0.05).5.The 3-year survival rate of patients with ER and PR positive was higher than those with negative(P<0.05),and the 3-year survival rate of patients with VEGF was lower than those with negative(P<0.05).6.There was no significant influence of positive rate between ER and PR(P>0.05). The positive rate of VEGF and ER,PR expressions in lung cancer had the negative correlation(r=-0.499,r=-0.399,P. P<0.01).Conclusion:1.It is demonstrated that ER, PR and VEGF are present in lung cancer tissues with high expression. No evidence of ER or PR immunoreactivity was present in pulmonary inflammatory pseudotumor.2.There was a positive correlation between ER and PR expression and degrees of histological grading in lung cancer.VEGF expression was significantly related to the degrees of histological grading and lymphatic metastasis.3.The 3-year survival rate of patients with ER and PR positive was higher than those with negative, while the 3-year survival rate of patients with VEGF positive was significantly lower than those with negative.4. Expression of ER and PR in lung cancer was closely related. And the positive rate of VEGF and ER,PR expressions in lung cancer had the negative correlation.
