Objective:To evaluate bacteria species distribution in the conjunctiva sac of aged and elderly Tibetans of autonomous prefecture of Sichuan province, to obtain some data of common ocular surface bacteria species, thus to provide microbiological and epidemiological evidence for prevention and treatment of common ocular surface infectious diseases. Methods:A total of 145 Tibetans(290 eyes) of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture were examined for inferior palpebral conjunctiva sac secretion test. The secretion was inoculated on blood plate for 48 hours, the bacteria was separated for identification. Results:147 eyes out of 290 showed positive in conjunctiva bacterial culture, and the positive rate was 50.7%,160 strains was cultured.(147/290). Among them, the dominant species was staphylococcus epidermidis, which was 76 strains in total and took 47.5% portion; while for corynebacterium it took 26.9% portion. The two occupied 74.4% portion in total. The positive rate of cultivation was 52.9%(73/138) in Tibetan male, which it was 48.7%(74/152) in Tibetan female. The difference of conjunctiva bacterial culture positive rate was not statistically significant between men and women.(χ2=0.514, P= 0.473).The inspected 147 positive cultured eyes of aged and elderly Tibetans, among which 65 were in Guza village and the positive rate was 53.28%; 82 were in Gaer village and the positive rate was 48.81%.The difference in two villages was not statistically significant by statistical analysis (χ2=0.565,P=0.452), which suggested the positive rate of bacteria culture in conjunctiva sac of aged and elderly Tibetans was not related with area. The positive rate of culture tended to increase with age. The above 80 year old group showed remarkable elevated positive rate (4/4,100%), and the difference was statistically significant by statistical analysis. (χ2=9.591,P= 0.048)Conclusion:Most of aged and elderly Tibetans could be found bacteria positive in conjunctiva sac, and the dominant bacteria were staphylococcus epidermidis, followed by corynebacterium. The positive rate of bacteria had no difference between gender and area. The positive rate of bacteria in conjunctiva sac of aged and elderly Tibetans increased with age.
